Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 52

Week 52 is a sleeveless dress or sundress. Not many rules with this one.  It doesn't have to be sleeveless.  Number one is it must be something you love and will wear.  If you stick with a color scheme here, then you will already have matching accessories.  Depends on you want for your wardrobe.  Here are some ideas:

This is the Seamwork Blake pattern.  This is a knit dress pattern.  It is above the knee but that can be changed easily if you want a longer dress.

This is the Seamwork Lito tshirt dress pattern.  It is a classic t-shirt dress with a little bit of a retro vibe.

This is the Seamwork Bobby dress pattern.  This pattern has a nice v-neck with an a-line skirt.

Week 51 is a light neutral shorts or capris.  As usually, if shorts or capris aren't part of your wardrobe then make it pants or a skirt.  Don't forget to consider the second layer from Week 50.  This will help with the coordination of your wardrobe.  Here's some items to consider:

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 50

Week 50 is a light weight second layer.  This could be a long sleeve shirt, a cardigan, a wrap.  You get to choose.  This is a good time to perhaps look ahead a little bit at what you may want for the next season.  Here's a few ideas:

This is the Liesl & Co Classic Shirt pattern.  As the name implies, this is a classic button-up shirt pattern but with a little twist.  It has cup sizing which for some can be a wonderful addition to a pattern. 

This is Seamwork Flor pattern.  It is a wrap cardigan that comes in two lengths.  In the right fabric, this could be a perfect item to keep in the car.  Seamwork is a subscription service but you can purchase this pattern separately.  I am an affiliate of Seamwork and if you purchase a subscription through the Seamwork links you will get a $3.00 discount and I will get a small benefit at no additional cost to you.

So, how is your wardrobe turning out?  Have you learned anything from this process?  Something that I have learned is that things don't always work out the way you think that this will.  It was surprising to me whenever I took the items from the 13 weeks and put them together, that they didn't always look great together but somehow I manage to get dressed every day.  Just a couple more weeks and this series will be over.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 49

Week 49 is a print or textured warm weather top.  The most important part of this is you should love this top. This top should go with a least one of your neutrals.  This is the time to add a little fun.  Here's something to think about:

This is Vogue 1701.  This top pattern is with and without sleeves.  It has an interesting collar.  

This is V1705.  It's a knit top with a bonus skirt.  The top is short or long sleeved. 

This is Butterick 6767.  This is a nice wrap with sleeve variations and options for ruffles at the neckline.

This is Butterick 6770.  This is a v-neck top with sleeve variations and a sash.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 48

Week 48 is a neutral print or patterned top.  Like last week, this can be any top your interested in adding - tank top, sleeveless top, button down, etc.  Time to look for great fabric to go along with those patterns that hopefully you have already fitted. 

You really should go check out the post this week.  The first top shown is really interesting.  It is not particularly expensive.  To me, it looks like a sleeveless shell.  Here's an idea for replicating:

This is the Silhouettes Sweater Set.  The sleeveless shell would be perfect for recreating.  Change would be add a seam down the center front.  Stitch the seam to wear you would be comfortable wearing it and make sure all the edges are covered with some type of tape.

Of course, I would use whatever pattern that I had alright fitted for this project. I would rather spend the money on the fabric than the pattern.

Just for more weeks of this series.  How have you done?  Did you get bored with following along or has it been helpful?  I found that I thought I was doing well but when I put the pieces together at the end of each quarter it was not as good of a mix as I would have preferred.  However, I think this is a learning process.  If like me you are use to purchasing individual pieces and hoping for the best, this has been an eye opener.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 47

Week 47 is a neutral, light-weight top.  This could be any top you are interested in having in your closet.  Sleeveless top, tank top, t-shirt, etc.  The only thing that it really needs to be is something you will love.  If you zip back to Week 40, there are several of sleeveless top options offered.  Interested in a button-down, try the Seamwork Willis pattern (this is a member only pattern for June) or you could try the Seamwork Natalie pattern as is or sleeveless.  Who couldn't use another t-shirt?  Grab your favorite pattern.  

There are so many options.  Grab your favorite pattern(s) and get with it.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe - Week 46

Week 46 is a neutral light-weight second layer.  This could be a button-down shirt, a cardigan, a wrap, a cape, etc.  I think you get the idea.  It is something to wear when you go into a restaurant that is really cool or for a cool evening.  Here's some ideas:

This is the Grainline Studio Archer button up shirt pattern.  It is a classic pattern.  Once it is fitted, you can easily make it may times. View A would work well as a light weight 2nd layer.  However, it might be fun to use View B.

This is the Loes Hinse Zipper Jacket pattern.  It is a little harder to locate but can be found here.  You get two views with this jacket.

This is the Indygo Junction 5-Way Wrap pattern.  This could be a fun, versatile piece to add to the wardrobe.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe - Week 45

Week 45 is dark, neutral, lightweight pants.  This is probably more my style than last week's shorts.  As stated last week, it doesn't have to be pants.  This could just as easy be a dress.  Here's a couple of options that would work well:

This is Jag's Woven Yoga Pants pattern by Silhouette Patterns.  This is a nice elastic waist pant with an ankle length.

This is McCall's 7942.  It's an elastic waist pant with side pockets.  This pattern also includes shorts and a skirt. Making it a good option for those items also.  I guess this is a good bang for your buck.  I'll be surprised if we see cheap patterns any more.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe - Week 44

Week 44 is dark, neutral shorts.  Perfect summer attire.  That doesn't mean that this has to be shorts.  What it does mean is a dark neutral bottom.  This can be shorts are all lengths, pants, or a skirt.  I would lean toward a skirt or capris.  I am no longer comforter in shorts that show my knees.  Here's my take on the patterns for this.  This month's seamwork patterns are perfect for this.

This is the line drawings for the Seamwork Dorian Shorts pattern.  They are high waisted with a partial elastic band and they have pockets.  For the month of June, these are member only patterns. It will be available for separate purchase in July. This is the line drawing for Seamwork Leonora skirt pattern.  If you're a member there is a bonus that provides a slant pocket variation.  Membership information is above.

Here's a top pattern that I had been looking for and really applies to the wardrobe building from the last 2 or 3 weeks:

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Weeks 42 and 43

Week 42 is a sleeveless top in an accent color and Week 43 is a sleeveless top in an print or accent color.  Check out the variety of styling in the tops shown in these two posts.  There are many ideas here for different types of tops.

If you go back to Week 40,  I have listed several sleeveless top patterns.  The Phoebe Tank pattern is one that I have previously fitted - here and here.  I added a dart, rotated it out to the hem, and then restored the silhouette.  However, I could have just as easily transferred the dart to the neckline and converted it to gathers.  That would be a different look but with the same fitting.  I wish I had traced the pattern now instead of doing all the work on the same pattern.  I would use a drapier fabric for that style of tank.

How many sleeveless tops do you need in a wardrobe?  I have two that I have made and a few that I purchased.  However, the purchased can not be worn alone as the armholes are too big and show more of me than I am comfortable with.  Isn't that the reason we sew?

Week 40 is a light, neutral sleeveless top.  My immediate thought is a tank top but there are other tops that are sleeveless.  If choosen well, this type of top can be worn the majority of the year.  Let's explore:

For a woven sleeveless tank, the Phoebe tank pattern from fabrics-store dot com is an excellent pattern.  It is very well drafted and free to registered members on the website.  

Here is an idea for a knit tank:

This is the Seamwork Julia tank pattern.  Go check out the vairous pictures of this top.  It is a classic knit tank pattern.  This pattern can be purchased individually or you can join a membership here.  This is the Asymmetrical Top & Tunic pattern by Indygo Junction.  You get two lengths with this pattern. A little different than the tanks above.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe...

This week is a time to evaluate your purchases or sewing.  Have you been keeping up and stitching?  I wil admit that I haven't.  I have sewn recently and made a couple of lovely warm weater tops but I've been concentrating my sewing on other things for now.

So, look at what you collected or planned?  Does it look the way you intended?  Does something need to be replaced because it doesn't work the way you intended it to?  Now, is a good time to take stock in what you have.  

Personally, I'm not home.  I don't have the opportunity to take stock.  When I do go home, it is for a quick cooking session and then I return to where I'm needed the most with food in hand for a couple of days.  

The Weekly Timeless Wardrobe is going to take a couple of weeks off.  So, I'll return with the next update in the series then.  Take time to think about what else you would like, summer is coming.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 39

Week 39 is a shirt dress or a warm weather dress.  Shirt dresses have been really strong the last few years and it looks like they are continuing.  I have a pattern that I've been wanting to try.  Here's the line drawing:

This is The Camber Set by Merchant and Mills (link is for a paper pattern).  If you are interested in a pdf version.  It can be purchased from Merchant and Mills here or here depending on the size needed.   This provides a loose fitting woven dress or t-shirt.  This will be a great dress for hot days from spring to fall.

As always, if you already have a pattern fitted use it.  Spend that extra money on fabric.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 38

Week 38 is twill or denim skirt.  Obviously if a skirt is not something you wear or would consider wearing, thn make this item any bottom that you prefer to wear in spring.  With that said, I want a denim wrap skirt.  I have the fabric and pattern. Just got to it done.  With that said, be sure and check out the skirts in the post.  The skirts from Marks & Spence are just fabulous and not particularly expensive.  I particularly liked the linen wrap skirt.

Here is my pattern choice for this:

This is the Sidekick Wrap Skirt pattern by Indygo Junction.  

Here is another option:

This is Butterick 6547.  It a wrap skirt with two views.  I think View A is a little more causal than View B but both views would be good.

Any skirt pattern you own that is meant for wovens will work.  However, the skirt or bottom is yours.  Use a pattern you already own and buy fabric.

Weekly Timeless Wardrobe, Week 37

Week 37 is a light-weight second layer.  The suggestion is a cotton cardigan.  However, there are many clothing items that could do this job.  Let's start with a standard cardigan pattern:

This is Hugo's Favorite Cardigan pattern by Silhoutte Patterns.  This is a favorite cardi pattern among the Silhouette followers.  A lovely lacy or lightweight knit would be wonderful here.

This is Brunello's Sweater pattern by Silhouette Patterns.  This is a new spring pattern and should be arriving any day.  Again, do this is a light weight fabric.

This is Vogue 9323.  It is a pattern of coverups.  It could fun with the right fabric.

I think you get the idea.  I bet you have something already in your pattern stash that will work.  Go find a beautiful fabric and create something beautiful.
