Scrappy Top....

This top looks so intentional.  I love the scrappiness of it.

Thisi s just a random picture from Pinterest. I can see doing this with scraps hiding among my growing piles of scraps.  I can see doing this with knits as will.  Hope you are inspired to create something wonderful.

Inspiration...Scrappy Skirt

I really like the idea of this skirt.  It is patchwork of various fabrics making it a good scrap busting project.

This is the Mae Multi Patchwork Striped Pencil Skirt by Ralph Lauren Collection. Price tag: $3490.00.  Details:  high waist, knee length, pencil silhouette, back walking vent.

This is an almost classic pencil skirt.  It does not have a waistband but a facing which is why I say almost.  Here is a pattern that is fairly close:

This is Vogue Patterns 2017.  There are a lot of options in the pattern but the skirt is fairly spot  on for the inspiration skirt.

This is Simplicity 9553.   This is another pattern with several options but that View B skirt is spot on to the inspiration.

Hope you are inspirated to make something interesting.

Inspiration Of A Different Sort...

Slow sewing...what does it mean to you?  To me, it is taking my time making something whether it is by machine or by hand.  Obviously, by hand is a little bit slower than the machine.

As I was looking around today, I found Thread and Sprout on Instagram.  There is so much inspiration among the photos shown.  If you wonder over to the website, you will find more eye candy along with tutorials, ready made items, art, etc.

You might even want to purchase something.

Scrappy Idea...

Today's scrap buster is more of a creative idea.  Just a picture but a great way to use up those odds and ends you can not bring yourself to get rid of.

This scrap buster brings the scraps to the front of the project.  The star of the show so to speak.  You could add all kinds of embellishments.

Storage Baskets and Bowls...

Today's scrap buster project is storage baskets and bowls.  This is a tutorial for braiding scraps of fabric and creating baskets and bowls.  From experience, this might take a little bit of practice to get the bottom to stay flat but it is fun and addictive.

Hope you are inspired to use up those bits of fabric.

Kitty Toys...

I have three cats.  Two of them are kittens who need to be entertained or kept busy.  While looking at a sewing website, I found this toy pattern and thought it would be a perfect little toy.  The kittens can easily carry it around, they can pull on both ends, etc.  This is also a great little scrap busting pattern.  I went the scrap busting route with some leftover corduroy.  I used a 1/3 of the yard of fabric to create four little cattails.   Here is a picture of the cattails before stuffing:

I changed the instructions a little bit.  I did the top fold down with the seams instead of the after stitching the whole piece.  I used a jumbo tube turner to turn each cattail.

It probably took 30 minutes to stitch and turn the tubes.  The actual challenge with these toys is stuffing.  I used the jumbo tube turner to assist with getting the catnip into the tube.  Here they are stuffed with catnip and tied:

Suprisingly, these were readily accepted by the cats.  Lots of biting, licking, and kicking.  Hopefully, that will be continue.

Patchwork Quilt...

This week's scrap buster is more of idea with a picture:

This is the Peyton Reversible Patchwork Quilt from Pottery Barn.

This would be a great way to use up excess flannel scraps/yardage whatever you have.  Of course, you would need an idea of how big you want your quilt but it could be baby quilt all the way to king size quilt.  Here is a link to a chart with quilt sizes.

Personally, I think that varying the size of blocks would be more interesting but it is your quilt to do what you want with.  Generally, I use a 1/2" seam with flannel because of fraying but I am sure if you do a little research you can find the answer.

A Packing Cube...

I found this tutorial for making a packing cube.  My niece started a new job a couple of weeks before Christmas and it will include a significant amount of traveling.  I thought this would be a perfect additional to her gear.  This was suppose to be a Christmas gift but life got in the way and now it is a late Christmas gift.  I did not use the fabric stated in the tutorial but chose to use a cute cotton print from my stash.  This makes this a stash buster project.  Now, to be honest, it could also be a scrap buster depending on the size of the scraps you keep hanging around.  Here is the fabric that I chose for this project:

My niece loves cats (as did I) and I thought this would be the perfect fabric for a packing cube.

The tutorial uses a nylon fabric that does not ravel and I choice a cotton fabric.  I really had to look carefully at the information and make changes as needed.  Here is the finished project:

I put about 4 yards of fabric in the packing cube so that it would not collapse.

Another view of the fabulous fabric on the back.

A side view.  This gives you an idea of how much more the packing cube could hold.

I did take the time to finish all the seams.  It was time consuming but really a necessary step.

Overall, this was not a bad project.  I am keeping the instructions so I can make additional packing cubes in the future.

Cozy Slippers...

Today's scrap buster project is a good one, if you have left fleeces, shrunk sweater, whatever.

The Cozy Slippers should be a really good project.  They could be really scrappy as well.  Nothing says that they need to all the same fabric.

Hope you're inspired to create something fun.  Remember to share.

Patchwork Top...

If you have scraps that are of similar weight, then think about actually making more clothing.  This is where you can get very creative.

1. DIY patchwork cropped tank

2. Patchwork Top

3.  Patchwork Top

4.  This idea could extend the life of a garment - Lazy Patchwork

5.  This idea is more like crazy quilting - Patchwork Top.  This idea can be applied to the scarfs in earlier posts as well.  Do not forget embellishments as it makes the crazy quilting look fabulous.

6.  Patchwork Dress

I think this is enough to get the creative juices flowing.  Have fun.

Fleece Gloves...

This week's scrap busting is aimed at those fleece scraps.  If you like sewing fleece, I have no do that there are scraps available. You will need between 1/4 yard and 1/2 yard total of fabric. Gloves are a little more challenging to make than some of the other scrap busting projects but very rewarding.

The link to the tutorial is here.  Hope you are inspired to use up those left bits and pieces of fleece.

Today's scrapbuster project is a Twisted Turban Knit Headband.  This would be require scrap pieces of a lightweight knit.  What type of scrap?  Narrow and long.   The tutorial for this headband is here.

Hope you are inspired to use up those bits and pieces that you just can not bring yourself to toss.

Knit Headband...

Today's scrapbuster project is a knit headband.  If you have long pieces of leftover knit that is at least 4" wide, this project is for you.

This headband is knotted on top.  So if you want a different type of knot, you might need more length.  The tutorial for the knit headband is here.

Hope you are inspired to use up those bits and pieces you can not toss.

Neckerchief Scarf...

Here is another scrapbusting project.  It is similar to the last scarf stash buster but a little different size.  This project is for smaller scraps pieces.  Think fat quarter size.  This is a tutorial for a neckerchief scarf.  This scarf also requires a light weight, drapey fabric.  Here is the link to the neckerchief scarf - here.

Neck Scarf...

Let's do some scrap busting.  I know when I purchase fabric online I almost always purchase more fabric than needed.  Why?  Because the fabric is usually cut in 1 yard increments.  Sad but true.  So if you have a large piece of left over fabric like 30-inches by 30-inches, you can make a neck scarf.  This will need to be something lightweight and drapey.

Here is the link for the tutorial on making a square neck scarf - here.

Now, remember not all scarfs are square.  Some are oblong.  Watch for additional tutorials in the future.

Non-Slip Sewing Machine Foot Pedal Pad...

Do you have wood floors and have issues with the foot pedal for your machine(s) moving around?  I certainly do!  Sometimes, it feels like my legs aren't long enough to finish the task at hand.  I found this tutorial and thought it would work well in my sewing area.  Off to the Dollar General to get some shelf liner.  I did go cheap and get the $1 roll and it isn't exactly like the liner used in the tutorial but hopefully it will work.  Next, I measured the Juki pedal that I want the Pedal Pad for and added 2-inches to the width and about 6-inches to the length.  Here's the pattern piece:

Next, I calculated the amount of binding that I was going to need which was about 23-inches and cut 2" width bias strips along with a small piece for the padding on one end.  Here is the results:

Definitely not my best stitching but it will be will be under the table and not seen often.  If I like using this little peddle pad for the Juki, then I will create one for my Husqvarna also.
