Black Friday Sales...

Oh, yes, I got involved in the early Black Friday Sales at Bluprint.  Everything is on sale.  The knitting category was my downfall.  Here is what I picked:

This is the Ledberg Cardigan  knitting kit.  I would have loved the charcoal version but it wasn't available.  So, I chose a navy yarn.  I'm really looking forward to completing this item.  I also purchased some circular needles in the recommended size and length for this project.

This is the Holiday Trees Highland knitting kit.  I chose evergreen and ecru yarns for this kit.

This is the Santa Claus Cones knitting kit.  I chose cardinal and ecru yarns for this kit.

I need to check the needle stash to see if I have the correct needles for the decorative needle kits.  I suppose I should have ordered them when I ordered the kits but I really don't want to many extra needles in the same size.  The decorative items will not be ready for this year's Christmas decorating but they will be ready for next Christmas.  That gives me a little over a year to complete.  I can do it!

I'm a very slow knitter and I expect I will play around a little bit before starting any of these items.  This is so I can figure out the correct tensions and just get a little practice in.   I haven't knitted in a while and it can be obvious when the tension on the stitches isn't quite right.

So, did you indulge in any of the crafty Black Friday sales?  Did you pick up anything good?

Sewing With Knits...The Hoodie

In the post on Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials, I stated that I was going to make the hoodie from the class. I did find the french terry in the stash.   I finished it!  Here are the front and back views:

Folks this is right off the machines.  I'm rather pleased with this.  It will be perfect as the weather starts to cool (it was 85F today).  If I make another one, I will make a small style change.  I'll remove a bit of the excess around the hips.

The big thing I did with this was I cover stitched the hems.  I was so excited about this.  I have played with the machine but other than using the chainstitch haven't really used it to create anything.  Here's the cover stitch on the hood:

Not bad for the very first attempt.  It remains to be seen whether or not the hems that I did in the round will stay put.  I did attempt to follow the directions for locking the stitching but you never know.

The next item item in the Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials is the Scoop Neck T-Shirt.  I need to print the pattern and tape it together.  Please note that if you use this link and purchase anything, I do get a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Here's something to make you smile:

This is my 4 1/2 month old kitten, Rocket.  The only reason I was able to finish the hoodie is because this is how he spent the afternoon.  Otherwise, I would have had too much help.

Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials

In an effort to make better use of my Bluprint subscription, I'm trying to watch more of the various classes.  I've chosen the Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials with Meg McElwee.  This class comes with 5 patterns - a hoodie, a skirt, a dress, a t-shirt, and yoga shorts.  It's a pretty good variety of patterns and I will be sewing along with this class.  The first project is the hoodie pattern.  Here's a look at the pattern diagram:

It looks like a typical pullover hooldie that will be very useful as the weather cools down in the fall.

If you would like to sew along with me, go check out the Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials at Bluprint.  Please note that if you use this link and purchase anything, I do get a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Now, it's time to dig through the stash and see what fabric is available that would make a great pullover.  I believe I have some French Terry that would be perfect.

Serger Solutions Class...

A just finished the Serger Solutions: Trouble Shooting Techniques class at Craftsy/Bluprint.  This was a real eye opener for me.  I currently own a Juki MO-1000 4/3/2 serger.  When I purchased it a couple of years ago, I thought that I wouldn't have any difficulty not having a computerized machine.  I was wrong.  I have never owned a serger where I had to determine the setting on the differential feed.  Yes, this is my third serger but I went from Bernette Funlock 4/3 serger without differential to a Husqvarna Huskylock 936.  The 936 had everything. Oh, you could change the setting but when you selected the fabric type and/or stitch, it automatically changed the settings for you.  Yeah, I was a bit spoiled.

I need to play with my serger a little more.  I feel like I have a better understanding of the differential feed and will be able to correct some issues I've been having with it when sewing knit fabrics.  Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of other things to learn in this particular class.  I will be watching/listening again as there is a ton of information and I have no doubt that it will take a bit for all of it to sink in.

The link above is directly to the class at Craftsy.  However, you can also watch it on Bluprint.  Here's the link - 7 day FREE trial on Bluprint.

Bluprint...

Have you checked the new version of Craftsy Unlimited yet?  It's called Bluprint.

I've been poking around this morning to see what is different from Craftsy Unlimited.  For starters, the Great Courses are included.  The first thing I started watching was fitness course.  Next, there is a section called Home Decorating and Entertaining.  I found this class Getting Started with Upholstery (craftsy link).  I'm working on a project right now that this class might be helpful with.

I have no doubt that I will find many more classes that I either hadn't noticed before or is new content for the new site.  So, hope over and check out the new site and try a 7 day FREE trial on Bluprint.  Remember if you to get a subscription during the free trial you can get either 33% off the first three months or $20 off an annual subscription.

Happy Sewing!  (or maybe it should be Exploring!)
