Inspiration...Shirtdress

The pre-fall fashions are starting to show up.  I haven't even completed summer stuff yet.

This is the Escada Abstract Floral Print Shirtdress.  Price tag: $1695.00.  For a closer look, head over to Neiman Marcus.

There is plenty to like about this dress. Just as there are something to dislike.  Let's start with the likes: general silhouette, length, a-line skirt, the fact that it is a shirtdress.  What's to dislike?  The cuffs!  I suppose there is someone, somewhere that doesn't mind the attention being drawn downward instead of to their face.  This dress would be much better with the contrast at the face.  Note:  Upon closer inspection of this dress, I did find a dilemma.  It's not a true shirtdress as the button front stops at the waist.  I can't figure out how you get in and out of it if the fitted waist doesn't open. Thoughts?

Let's see if we can find any current patterns in this silhouette:

This is Vogue 9345.  It is a classic shirt dress pattern with many options.  I think view D is the match to the inspiration photo.  Since this pattern has many options, it's a great opportunity to create more than one item.

For the price tag of the inspiration dress, you can create many dresses even if you were using the silk satin.  Hope you're inspired to create something beautiful.

Happy Stitching!
