Inspiration...Cotton Top

Summer is coming!  Have you started stitching for spring/summer yet?  I haven't but I have lots of ideas.  Hopefully, I will get to some of them.  Here's a great top:

This is the Huxley Palazzo Patchwork Printed Short Sleeve Cotton Blouse by Lafayette 148 New York.  Price tag: $398.00.   For a closer look, check out Neiman Marcus website.

How cute is this top?  I love everything about it.   I want this top but I'm not willing to spend $398.00 for it.  So, I went looking for patterns.  I found this one:

This is McCall's 7360.  It is a pullover henley style top.  Not exactly like the inspiration blouse.  I would definitely eliminate the front pockets and shorten the sleeves a little bit.  However, there is no collar.  I suppose the top wouldn't have to be exactly like the inspiration top.

Of course, there is always the Archer popover variation by Grainline Studio.  This requires the Archer shirt pattern but it is also an option for the top.  It is more shirt like than blouse like though.  Again, I would leave off the pockets and make the sleeves shorter.

I think what I would be more interested in is a camp shirt style top.  Anyone know of a pattern for that?  I located some tutorials on how to make a popover top from a shirt/blouse pattern.  That good isn't it?  Use a pattern you have already fitted.  Here are the links:

1.  How to Sew a Popover Top From a Simple Shirt Pattern

2.  How to Sew a Popover Button Placket -  This doesn't really talk about the pattern changes but does give good information on the placket itself.

3.  Free Popover Placket and Tutorial -  This tutorial is similar to item 2 but it does provide information on changing the pattern.

I think you get the point.  We can do this without purchasing a new pattern should we decide that is what we want to do.

Hope you're inspired to create something beautiful!

Happy Stitching!
