I am not convinced that a stretch fabric is needed for a relaxed fit but that is for you to decide. I do love the idea of this style of jacket in corduroy. Here is the first pattern that I thought of:

I have made this jacket and it is one of my favorite jackets that I have made. I did not realize that it had been so long since I made the jacket. It is still going strong. Maybe it is time to make a new version. Hope you are inspired to create something wonderful.
